East Sussex Scouting has had specific links with Scouting in Kenya since our first project in 2000. There have been many other projects undertaken in Kenya since then. Some in the original location, whilst others have gone to different areas to help numerous people in need. Unfortunately finding people who need help is one area where we have plenty of choice.

A group of Explorer Scouts and Network Scouts went to Nyeri in 2006 and built a Scout hut for the use of the local Street Scouts. The hut was built to a stage where the walls where up and the roof was in place. They also taught the Kenyans how to make, maintain, and operate pole lathes, simple, low maintenance, wood turning lathes.

Again we will be going to Kenya to help the Street Scouts and the location will again probably be Nyeri so that the project work already undertaken there can be continued. This will however depend greatly the result of investigations we are currently making, and of course on the political situation out there. At the time of writing things seem to be calming down, and of course it is 2 years before we go.

Duration: 3 weeks
Who can apply: All active uniformed members of East Sussex Scouts who are currently under 25 years of age and will be 16 or over on 1st August 2010.
How do I apply: Complete and submit the application form attached, along with a photograph, passport style, by 11th May 2008.
How can I join the team: Be selected at the team selection event on 25/26th May 2008
What will we do: Work hard, play hard, and then work hard some more! Meet and work alongside the local Street Scouts, and then do things like, Safari, The Ark, Fisherman’s Camp, and other tourist activities.
